No Longer Bracing · with Maralle Marcussian
Your life may have moved forward, but part of you is still bracing for what happened before.
A private, four-session, Jesus-centered process for women who've learned to manage an old wound and are ready for healing at the root. Online. By application.
- Coaching, not therapy. Referrals when something needs more.
- You're never pushed. You can say no to any exercise.
- Jesus at the center. Never added on, never forced.
If this is where you are
Your life has moved forward. Part of you hasn't caught up yet.
Something happened. A relationship, a season, a wound from further back. It's behind you now. You built a life. You're capable, and people lean on you. You might even be in a relationship, or a marriage, that's safe.
But your body didn't get the memo. A text that takes too long to come back tightens your chest. A hint of disappointment in someone's voice and you're already apologizing, before you know what for. Conflict starts and something in you goes quiet, or blank, or talks its way through the discomfort instead of saying what you think.
You may already know where this started. Knowing hasn't made it stop.
That doesn't mean you're too sensitive, too much, or broken. It means part of you is still bracing, the way a body stays braced long after the thing it was bracing for has passed. The danger ended. The bracing didn't get the message.
The woman you are is not the wound you're carrying.
What it's costing you
You're not in crisis. You're tired.
This isn't an emergency. It's exhaustion, the quiet kind that comes from managing something for years instead of resting from it. Watching your own reactions. Reading the room before you've checked on yourself. Staying two steps ahead of a conflict that hasn't started yet.
It reaches further than you'd think. Trusting someone who is safe still takes work it shouldn't take. You edit what you say before you've said it. The people who love you learn to read your face for weather that already passed.
None of that is dramatic. It's quiet, and it adds up. I'm so tired of managing this is not a small thing to carry for another year, when the thing you're managing already happened.
What healing looks like
Not another coping tool. The wound loses its grip.
Picture the same trigger, months from now. A hard conversation. A delayed reply. A hint of disappointment in someone's voice.
You still feel something. The old alarm may ring once. But you recognize it before it runs the conversation for you. There's half a second where you get to choose: ask for a minute instead of apologizing on reflex, say what you think, stay in the room instead of quietly leaving it before your body does.
Healing is the point. Freedom is the fruit of it: trusting people, feeling safe in your own skin, walking into a hard conversation without leaving pieces of yourself outside the door. Not gone completely. No longer running the show.
Why the other things helped, then faded
Managing the reaction isn't the same as healing what's underneath it.
You've tried real things. Prayer, counseling, books, forgiveness, staying busy, a coping tool that worked for a while. None of it was wasted. None of it failed you.
Here's what happened instead. Something painful happened once, and pain taught you something. Not in words. A belief settled in underneath without you agreeing to it. For one woman it's I'm not safe. For another, People leave, or My needs are what cause problems, or Silence is safer than my voice. Around that belief you built a response that protected you: going quiet, apologizing first, watching everyone else's mood before your own. It worked. That's exactly why it's still here. The danger ended. The belief stayed, and so did everything you built around it.
Most tools work on the response, and that helps, in real ways. But the belief underneath is still there, untouched, waiting for the next trigger. That's the part coping can't reach on its own.
You don't need one more tool for managing it. You need what's underneath it healed.
The process
Wound. Belief. Response. Brought to Jesus.
Everything arrives tangled: the reaction on top, the belief under it, the wound under that. Over four private sessions we slow it down enough to see each part on its own, and bring what's underneath to Jesus instead of managing what's on top.
The wound: what happened, and what it hurt. The belief: what pain taught you, usually without words. The response: how you learned to protect yourself, and why it's still running.
None of this is new. The tools may be, but bringing a real wound to Jesus without pretending is as old as the Psalms: "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 147:3 And before He healed, He often asked first: "What do you want me to do for you?" Mark 10:51 Asking, not assuming. That question shapes every session.
Four sessions, one path. Each has its own focus, but your healing is personal. We follow a clear path together, at the pace safety requires.
- Name What Is Still HappeningWhat's happening now and what keeps repeating. We build safety first, get clear on what you want from this, and begin your Map.
- Look Beneath the SurfaceThe history beneath the response. What pain taught you to believe, and the protective pattern that grew around it.
- Pursue Healing at the RootPrayer and Scripture brought to the belief pain formed. Room for grief, for truth, and, when you're ready and never before, for forgiveness. We slow down or stop whenever safety asks for it.
- Practice a New Response and Continue Without BracingGrounding tools, practicing a different response from a place of present safety, naming your triggers and your boundaries, completing your Map, and a written plan for what continues after the sessions end.
Safety always outranks the schedule. If a session needs more time, or less, we take it.
A written picture of what happened, what it taught you, and how you've been protecting yourself since. It's built with you across the four sessions, and you keep it.
A worked example
"I left. I'm safe now. So why am I still bracing?"
Written to show how the process thinks. It is not a client story. It reflects patterns Maralle has seen many times.
The situation
Several years ago a woman left a relationship that wasn't safe. Her life now is stable, and she's with someone who is. Her body hasn't caught up.
01 What's happening now
When her partner sounds disappointed, or says "we should talk," her chest tightens and her mind goes blank. She apologizes before she knows what for, agrees before she's found her own thought, and manages his mood instead of naming hers. Afterward she pulls away, ashamed that she didn't say what she meant.
02 What it awakened
None of this is about her partner. It's an old alarm, built in a relationship where disagreement wasn't safe, where pushing back could bring criticism, silence, or worse. That relationship ended years ago. The alarm didn't.
03 What pain taught her to believe
Underneath the reaction: Conflict means I'm in danger. My voice creates problems. Disagreement will cost me love. Everyone else's feelings are my job. Silence keeps me safe. She didn't choose these. Pain taught them to her, quietly, and they've been running ever since.
04 Healing at the root
Slowly, at her pace, those beliefs get named and brought before Jesus, and set beside what is true now: she is safe, her voice doesn't cost her this relationship, and what happened was not her fault. No pressure to relive it in detail or to forgive on a timeline. Room for whatever is still there, grief, anger, relief, instead of managing it out of sight.
05 A new response
The next hard conversation doesn't go perfectly. The old fear still shows up, briefly. But this time she notices it before it runs the conversation. She asks for a few minutes instead of apologizing on reflex. She comes back and says what she thinks.
What healing at the root produced
Not a woman who never feels afraid in conflict again. A woman who can feel the old alarm and still choose her response. The wound doesn't disappear. It loses its old authority.
Who guides you
Maralle Marcussian
- More than three years as an emotional-health coach, walking with dozens of women
- Completed Alive and Free's six-month Coach Launch coach training
- Her own healing came first, and shaped how she works
It started with her mother on the phone, talking with friends through their hardest days, and a girl listening who decided that was worth doing.
She didn't set out to build a practice on it. First she went after her own healing, the slow, honest kind that looks messy while it's happening: inner-child work, facing rejection instead of managing around it, learning what her own body's protective reactions were doing and why. And above everything else, walking back into the painful places with Jesus brought into them instead of talked around.
That's where the question she asks every woman comes from: is this a real threat, or a perceived one? "A real threat is a lion chasing you," she says. "A real threat can also be something traumatic you've lived through. Without working that out, it shows up with completely different people, in completely different scenarios, and your body doesn't know the difference." She struggled with that herself, before she had the tools to tell the two apart.
For more than three years she's walked with dozens of women through this work. She's honest about what the end of a session looks like. Sometimes it's relief. Sometimes it's a puzzle piece to the problem. Sometimes a woman's guard comes down a little and there's joy underneath it. And sometimes it comes later, after she's had time to sit with what surfaced.
The goal was never that you'll need her. It's that you'll be more free.
- Safety comes before exploration. You set the pace, always.
- No manufactured memories. Nothing is ever suggested about something you haven't said yourself.
- You can say no to any exercise or prayer, every time, without needing a reason.
- Forgiveness never requires giving an unsafe person access to your life again.
- If what you're carrying needs more than coaching, she'll say so and point you there.
A word from Maralle
Is this where you are?
You'll recognize it if it's you.
- My reaction is often bigger than what's happening in front of me.
- I react to a real threat and a perceived threat the same way, and I can't always tell which is which.
- Even in a relationship that's safe, part of me is still waiting for it not to be.
- In conflict, I go quiet, apologize first, or agree before I know what I think.
- I've prayed, gotten help, and done real work, and the same wound still shows up.
- I'm tired of managing this. I want it to be different, not just managed better.
If four or more of these are yours, keep reading.
Who this is for, and who it isn't for.
This is for
A woman who has built a functioning life and can see that an old wound is still shaping her reactions, her relationships, or her decisions. You don't need to be a mature Christian, or to call yourself a Christian yet. You only need to be willing to take part in a process with Jesus at the center. You're ready to go slow, and to bring what you feel, not just the version of you that copes well.
This isn't for
- Anyone looking for a guaranteed outcome, or for four sessions to finish healing. Healing at the root is real. It isn't instant, and four sessions don't finish it.
- Anyone who isn't willing to have Jesus at the center of the process.
- Someone in immediate danger, in an actively unsafe situation, or having thoughts of ending her life. This process can't be the primary safety plan for that. Please contact emergency services, or call or text 988 in the US, or a mental-health professional. This isn't the right help for that moment, and you deserve the right help.
- Needs that call for a doctor, a psychiatric provider, or specialized trauma treatment. Maralle will say so and point you there.
- A woman who wants to be told what to forgive, and when. That decision stays yours.
Everything in No Longer Bracing.
- Four private 60-minute sessions, online, two a week over two weeks.
- Your Wound, Belief, and Response Map: a written picture of what happened, what it taught you, and how you've been protecting yourself since. You keep it.
- Jesus-centered prayer and Scripture, brought to what's underneath your reactions.
- Honest coaching: someone who listens for the belief beneath what you're saying and tells you the truth about it, with care.
- Practical grounding and body-awareness tools, chosen for you, never forced into a fixed system.
- One brief WhatsApp check-in between sessions, with a reply within a business day (Mon–Fri).
- Accountability as you practice a new response.
- A written Continued Restoration Plan, so the work keeps going after the last session.
- Referrals, if something surfaces that needs more than coaching.
All four sessions are scheduled at your Orientation and completed within 45 days of Session 1.
Nothing is paid today
The investment.
or two payments of $215
Four sessions and $400 are a small step compared to another year of quietly managing the same wound. If what you're carrying needs more than four sessions can hold, Maralle will say so and point you toward the right kind of help.
What the money pays for: Maralle's time, her training, a real structure, and support through the process. It doesn't buy healing. That isn't for sale. It buys a focused, careful space to bring what's underneath to Jesus.
How it begins
Nothing is paid until we both know it's right.
- ApplyA short application, including a few questions about your safety, so Maralle understands what you're carrying. You book your Restoration Consultation the moment you send it. Applying isn't committing.
- Restoration Consultation30 minutes on what you're facing and whether this process fits it. No pressure in either direction.
- Mutual fitMaralle only continues with women she believes this process can help well. You only continue if it's right for you, too.
- Nothing paid until you're acceptedThe agreement and payment come after acceptance, not before.
- Fully refundable until Session 1If anything changes before your first session, you receive a full refund, no questions asked.
Once you enroll, your Orientation follows within three days, and all four sessions go on the calendar there.
Questions women ask before applying
Asked plainly, answered plainly.
I've done counseling, or a program like this, before. It helped, and then it came back.
Nothing you tried was wasted, and it didn't fail you. Coping tools work on how you react in the moment. What usually goes unreached is the belief pain taught you underneath, and that's what this process is built for. Your Map and your Continued Restoration Plan keep the work going after the four sessions end.
Do I have to be a strong Christian for this?
No. You don't have to call yourself a Christian yet, and your faith doesn't need to be figured out first. You only need to be willing to take part with Jesus at the center. And still hurting after a lot of prayer is not a sign of weak faith.
Shouldn't I be in therapy instead?
Maybe, alongside this or instead of it, and that's exactly what the Restoration Consultation is for. Coaching isn't therapy and doesn't replace it. It can sit alongside professional care, and if what you bring needs more, Maralle will say so and point you toward it.
Will I have to relive everything, or will it bring up more than I'm ready for?
No. You set the pace, you can say no to any exercise or prayer, and a session slows down or stops whenever that's what's needed. Safety outranks the schedule every time. And if something surfaces that this process isn't equipped for, she'll point you to the right help.
Can four sessions actually help something this deep?
Four sessions won't finish every part of healing, and no process this short can promise that. What's realistic: you'll understand what's been shaping you, the belief underneath it will be named and brought to Jesus, you'll practice responding differently, and you'll leave with a written plan for what continues. A wound doesn't have to be gone completely to lose its old authority.
Will this stay private?
Yes. What you share is treated as confidential, in terms written into the agreement you sign before Session 1.
Will she tell me to just forgive and move on, or push me to reconcile with someone who hurt me?
No to both. There's room for grief and for the truth of what happened long before forgiveness is on the table, and forgiveness never requires giving an unsafe person access to your life again. Nothing here is forced or rushed.
Will she tell me something happened that I don't remember?
No. Nothing is ever suggested about memories you haven't brought yourself. That line doesn't move.
Is Maralle qualified to do this?
She's coached women for more than three years and completed Alive and Free's six-month Coach Launch training. Her own healing came first, and it shaped how she works. She's a coach, not a mental-health professional, and won't present herself as more than that.
I'm already handling more than most people I know. Shouldn't I be able to handle this too?
Strong women often brace the longest, precisely because they're so good at managing. Managing it well isn't the same as having it healed.
I'm in a difficult or unsafe situation right now.
That gets looked at individually, but this process can't be your primary safety plan. If you're in danger, please contact emergency services or call or text 988 first. Once you're safe, this may be part of what comes next.
From women who have walked this road
Before No Longer Bracing had a name.
Before No Longer Bracing was formally offered, Maralle walked with women through healing like this.
You can keep managing it, or find out what's underneath.
You've been managing it well for a long time. That took strength. It was never meant to be the whole answer.
You won't be the first woman to bring this into the room.
